Meet Jolene! Jolene is a 4-year-old basset beauty with a big heart—literally! She even has a perfect heart-shaped mark on her side to prove it.

This sweet girl came to us from a small rescue after her previous family wasn’t able to give her the care she needed. Jolene is currently heartworm positive, but thanks to SBR she’s getting the treatment and second chance she deserves.

She’s gentle, easygoing, and gets along wonderfully with kids and other dogs. She does love to be with her people and is a bit of a Velcro dog. Jolene is the kind of companion who will happily fit right into a loving family.

Some days in rescue tug at the heart more than others.

Meet 4-year-old Daisy and 2-year-old Lilly. These beautiful girls joined SBR because their dad has entered hospice, and we promised to make sure they will always be safe, loved, and together.

Both Daisy and Lilly are healthy, very sweet, and completely housebroken. They get along wonderfully with other dogs and are already showing us what loving companions they’ll be for the right family.

Lilly is the shy one of the pair, preferring to take things in slowly, while Daisy is more outgoing and loves the idea of having new playmates around. They even passed the “storm test” with flying colors—no fear of thunder or bad weather here!

Since they’re a bonded pair, Daisy and Lilly will stay side by side for their next chapter.

Meet Bowie. This sweet 7-year-old boy is a recently retired breeder dog who's finally getting his chance at the good life. Surrendered to SBR, Bowie is just beginning his journey toward becoming a cherished family member.

Like many dogs coming from a breeding background, he’s a bit shy and unsure of life outside a kennel. But with a little patience and a lot of love, we know he'll come out of his shell and become the devoted companion he was always meant to be.

Bowie is heading to the vet soon for his first wellness check, and he’ll be scheduled for his neuter shortly after. Once he’s medically cleared, he’ll be ready to find the perfect forever home where he can enjoy all the love, comfort, and belly rubs he’s missed out on. Welcome to your new beginning, Bowie—you’re safe and loved.

Meet Hank. He is a very handsome 4-year-old, tricolor boy. He is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and on heartworm preventative. He came to SBR after his family had to make the difficult decision to rehome him due to allergy issues with one of their children.

Hank is a very sweet boy with a gentle personality. He enjoys spending time in a fenced yard and is fairly independent—not overly needy, but always happy for attention. He has grown up alongside another basset, and would do best in a home with another dog.

He may tinkle a little when he gets really excited, but it’s easily managed. Overall, Hank is a loving, easygoing companion

Meet Ruby!
This beautiful 3-year-old basset has already experienced quite a journey in her young life. After being shuffled between several homes, Ruby finally thought she’d found her forever family—but due to unforeseen medical issues, they had to make the heartbreaking decision to surrender her.

Ruby is as sweet and gentle as they come. She can be a little shy at first and is sometimes startled by loud noises, but once she feels safe, her affectionate personality shines through. She gets along wonderfully with both dogs and cats.

Ruby loves going for walks and exploring the backyard, taking in all the wonderful scents that only a basset nose can find! Like many young bassets, she’s said to have a curious streak and a tendency to chew on things left out—but so far, she’s been an absolute angel.

Meet Bella! This sweet 4-year-old girl is a recent arrival to SBR, and we’re so glad she’s here. Bella had a litter of puppies about six months ago, and she came to us just in time—she’s currently in heat! Her previous family noticed some “assertive” behavior after her pregnancy and made the decision to surrender her. Like many of our rescues, Bella hasn’t had much medical care in the past, but that’s all about to change. She’s settling in beautifully with her foster family and will be visiting the vet soon for a full wellness exam and to schedule her spay.

Bella is sweet, sweet, sweet. She is ready for a fresh start and a life full of love. She’s a gentle soul who is timid in new situations.  She would do best in a home with a fenced in yard and a family who will give her the care, love, and stability she deserves.          

Meet Holly, a sweet 4-year-old basset hound whose life just took a big change. Her dad was heartbroken to let her go, but he knew surrendering her was the best decision to give her the care and attention she deserves. Holly hasn’t had much medical care in the past, so she’ll be heading straight to the vet to get all checked out and up to date.

Through it all, Holly’s gentle personality shines. She’s an absolute sweetheart who gets along wonderfully with other dogs and even cats. We know this lovable girl has a bright future ahead, and we’re so glad to be part of her journey to a happy, healthy forever home.

Meet Otis, an 8-year-old senior basset that was surrendered to Suncoast Basset Rescue because his owners are dealing with an illness and are no longer home as much. They thought it was in Otis’s best interest to find a better situation for him. Otis is the perfect gentleman. He is good with other dogs and has a very sweet personality.

His foster dad, however, has found that Otis is capable of counter surfing and his longer legs make it a bit easier for him too. He is just settling in and we hope that Otis will find a forever home where he can get the love and attention he deserves.
