Say hello to Copper! This sweet and snuggly gal was found wandering the streets and landed in a local shelter before making her way to Suncoast Basset Rescue. At around 7 years young, Copper has clearly been a mama before, and now it’s her turn to be pampered and loved! Copper is currently living the good life in her foster home, getting along great with her doggy pals and sticking close to her humans—she’s definitely got some Velcro dog tendencies, which is completely understandable given her uncertain past!

After the bumpy road she’s been on, who can blame her for wanting a little extra love? She will be heading back to the shelter but only to complete her medical care by getting spayed. Copper will soon be ready to find that forever couch(and human) to cuddle up with.

Meet Darla! Darla is a gorgeous 3-year-old red and white basset hound with a sweet, gentle soul. Her previous family, heartbroken to part with her, reached out to SBR for help when a family member’s allergies became too severe. Darla loves spending time outdoors and could happily hang out in the backyard for hours, soaking up the sunshine and sniffing around. Walks, however, are still a new adventure for her — we don’t think she had many opportunities for them in her past, so she’s learning the ropes at her own pace.

Naturally shy, Darla tends to be cautious when meeting new people. She needs a little time, patience, and gentle encouragement to feel safe and comfortable, but once she warms up, she’s a loyal and loving companion. She gets along well with other dogs and even cats, making her a wonderful addition to a multi-pet household.scription goes here

Meet Gus! This sweet senior basset mix is looking for a soft place to land. At around 14–15 years old, Gus has the soulful eyes and gentle spirit of a dog who’s lived a lot of life. His foster mom believes he may be part Basset and part Labrador—he’s got the charm and heart to match both breeds! Gus spent the last 8–9 years with a family who loved him, but due to a divorce and upcoming move, they were no longer able to keep him. Sadly, like many senior dogs, Gus found himself caught in a tough situation—but thankfully, SBR was able to step in and offer him a second chance. Though he hasn’t had veterinary care in quite some time, Gus is now on the road to wellness. He’s already started pain medication to help his stiff joints, and he’ll be getting a full check-up soon.

Despite it all, Gus is incredibly sweet, loves being brushed, and absolutely adores human attention. He’s a quiet, gentle soul who just wants to lay in the sun and be near his people. Gus is hoping to find a calm, loving home where he can spend his golden years surrounded by comfort, care, and kindness. 

Meet Petey! Petey is a sweet 2-year-old basset hound who was recently rescued from a hoarding situation and brought to the humane society. Shelter life was overwhelming for him—he was frightened and had very little experience with human socialization or being out and about in the world.

Thankfully, Petey is now settling into his foster home, where he has many basset buddies to help him feel at ease. He is already showing signs of comfort and trust, especially with Grandma, who quickly became his safe space. He is already proving that with love, patience, and the right company he is ready to blossom.

Meet Otis, an 8-year-old senior basset that was surrendered to Suncoast Basset Rescue because his owners are dealing with an illness and are no longer home as much. They thought it was in Otis’s best interest to find a better situation for him. Otis is the perfect gentleman. He is good with other dogs and has a very sweet personality.

His foster dad, however, has found that Otis is capable of counter surfing and his longer legs make it a bit easier for him too. He is just settling in and we hope that Otis will find a forever home where he can get the love and attention he deserves.

Meet Hank, a handsome 7-year-old male Basset Hound with a big heart. Hank has had a bit of a rocky start, having lived in several homes over the years. After his previous owner passed away, he was taken in by family, but they’re now downsizing and can no longer keep him. That’s where SBR comes in!

Hank is friendly with both dogs and cats and enjoys going for walks. Though he might be a bit independent at first, once he settles in, he’s all about spending time with his humans, snuggling up, and enjoying some love. He’s going to be heading to the vet soon so that he can get updated on all his vaccines and get scheduled to be neutered.

This handsome 4-year-old male is Milo. He weighs in at 55 lbs. and knows all the typical basset tricks, like flat basset, counter surfing and trash can magician. He’s a real love bug, very sweet and gets along with other dogs. He came to SBR because his family had some major life changes. They could no longer devote the time or energy to give Milo what he needs. He is settling into his new foster home.

Meet Lady, a gentle and timid soul who is just beginning to discover the joys of being a dog. As a former breeding female, Lady spent her life outdoors with little human interaction and never had the chance to experience the carefree life of a puppy.

Now, thanks to SBR, her life has taken a beautiful turn. Lady is slowly adjusting to life in a loving home, where she’s learning about soft beds, toys, affection, and the warmth of human companionship. While she’s still shy, she’s making progress every day and showing just how sweet and special she truly is. She has recently made a trip to the vet for her first wellness exam ever and is scheduled to be spayed. Lady hopefully will soon be ready for a future filled with love, patience and lots of positive attention.

Meet Enzo! He is lovable 4-year-old red & white male basset hound that is probably about 50lbs or so. Enzo’s family made the tough decision to surrender him to SBR due to downsizing and feeling that they could no longer meet his needs. While Enzo gets along with other dogs, he certainly enjoys being the center of attention—he loves having all the toys to himself and prefers the spotlight from his people. He has never been around cats.

Enzo is an excellent walker and absolutely loves getting outside for strolls. He may come across as a little chatty or reactive to other dogs and people, but that’s just his basset personality shining through! His previous family described him as willful and resource-driven, but we think his behavior seems typical for the breed—he’s just a confident basset with a strong sense of personality. Enzo has been used to having someone around most of the time also. He’s not a fan of being left alone for long stretches.
