ADOPT A BASSET HOUND – Give a Hound a Second Chance

Thank you for making the decision to rescue a basset. At Suncoast Basset Rescue (SBR), we are dedicated to matching you with a loving, loyal companion who will become part of your family for life. We put a lot of time and effort in making sure that every home that an SBR dog goes to is safe, loving, understanding and committed. Our goal is to give these dogs a second chance to live the life they deserve – as someone’s best friend.

HOW THE ADOPT PROCESS WORKS

For the Basset Hound:

Our journey with each basset begins when we rescue them from situations of neglect, abuse, or abandonment. As a foster-based rescue serving every county in Florida, we place each dog into a dedicated foster home where they receive individualized care.  The foster family plays a key role in helping the dog heal, both physically and emotionally. During this time, the dog undergoes a full medical and behavioral assessment, receiving any necessary treatments, vaccinations, spaying/neutering, and addressing any behavioral needs through training or other techniques. The goal is to prepare each hound for adoption, ensuring they are healthy and ready to thrive in a new home.

For the Adopter:

The adoption process starts with you submitting a completed adoption application.  An adoption coordinator will contact you promptly and coordinate the process of getting you approved and finding the right match dog.  We take the time to understand your current living situation, your experience with dogs(bassets), and what qualities you’re looking for in a new companion. We’ll also contact your veterinarian, call your personal reference(s) and conduct a home visit.

We want to find the right fit for both you and the dog, as many of the bassets we rescue have endured tough circumstances. It’s essential to us that they go to their final forever home, where they can live in peace and happiness for the rest of their days. After adoption, we provide post-adoption support to answer any questions or concerns, ensuring a smooth transition for both you and your new hound.

Adoption Fees:

The fees help cover the costs of rescue, rehabilitation, and veterinary care. Your donation is vital in supporting our work and enabling us to continue saving bassets in need. The adoption fees are as follows:

Puppy (under 1 year old) $525

Adult (1 year to 8 years) $400

Senior (9 years and up) $200

Special Needs $100
