Meet Roscoe, a 1-year-old Bassador (Basset Hound/Labrador mix) on the lookout for his forever home! Roscoe came to SBR after enduring tough living conditions and has quickly adapted to the indoor life with the help of his amazing foster dad and furry siblings. While he spent most of his life outside, he’s now mastered the doggie door and learned that the grass is the best place to do his business. Roscoe enjoys playing with his foster siblings, though he does have a tendency to chase cats outside. With a bit of training and patience, he’s sure to improve, especially since his siblings love to chase cats too!

Weighing in at about 45 pounds, Roscoe is a sweet and affectionate guy. He loves to snuggle up on the bed with his humans or furry friends but is just as content resting on the floor next to his foster dad at bedtime. As a young dog, Roscoe has a bit of a chewing habit, so be sure to keep some chew toys around to keep him busy! While he's not food-aggressive, he can get a little anxious around mealtime. He’s polite about letting others eat but thinks it’s fair game if they walk away.

Meet Napoleon! This 50 pound, charming, 2.5-year-old, blue tricolor Basset Hound is a new arrival to SBR. His family reached out to SBR for help in finding him a new place to call home, and we’re excited to help him on his journey. Napoleon is sweet, friendly, and eager to make new friends, though he’s not sure what to make of his foster family’s 3 bassets.

Since we don’t know much about him and his needs, we will give him a chance to settle in and get to know his personality. Currently, he’s not up to date on vaccines and hasn’t been neutered, but he’ll be scheduled for his first vet visit soon. 

Meet Bailey and Baron, a sweet and inseparable bonded pair of 1-year-old basset hounds. Bailey, the lovely lady, and Baron, the charming gent, share the same sire but have different dams. Baron is a big boy, weighing in at 70lbs, and is a handsome tan and white color. Bailey is around 56 lbs. and she is a beautiful tricolor. Sadly, they were surrendered due to a family illness and the inability to give them the attention they deserve. These two are both incredibly affectionate and great with other dogs.

They do need some guidance in basic manners such as not pulling or jumping, especially because they are large dogs. Baron, who believes he's a giant lap dog, is always ready to shower you with kisses. While they are crate trained, they’ve been known to test their foster family's patience by turning crate time into a late-night slumber party, complete with a chorus of whining!

Suncoast Basset Rescue received a pleading email from a county shelter about a 12 year old bagel who was brought in as a stray. His stray hold was up, no one claimed him and he’s not in the best of shape, with a list of health issues, including being heartworm positive.

We knew he needed SBR’s help and we couldn’t let him stay any longer than necessary at the shelter. In honor of his arrival just after Valentine’s Day he has been named Eros. We are so happy to have this handsome senior boy in SBR’s care and we know he’s going to feel the love in his foster home.

Meet Copper, a sweet 6-month-old basset hound who's ready for a fresh start! Copper was surrendered to Suncoast Basset Rescue after not receiving the care and attention every puppy deserves. Unfortunately, he hasn’t had the basic training most pups get, so he’s still learning things like potty training, jumping, and good manners with other dogs. Being a typical basset puppy, he also loves to chew!

Copper is currently settling into his foster home and adjusting to a more structured routine. While he hasn’t had the necessary medical care up until now, he’ll soon be visiting the vet for a full wellness exam, vaccines, blood work, and will be scheduled for a neuter.

Meet Otis, an 8-year-old senior basset that was surrendered to Suncoast Basset Rescue because his owners are dealing with an illness and are no longer home as much. They thought it was in Otis’s best interest to find a better situation for him. Otis is the perfect gentleman. He is good with other dogs and has a very sweet personality.

His foster dad, however, has found that Otis is capable of counter surfing and his longer legs make it a bit easier for him too. He is just settling in and we hope that Otis will find a forever home where he can get the love and attention he deserves.

Meet Gary, a 4-year-old, handsome and lovable basset weighing in at around 80 pounds. With his sweet and laid-back personality, Gary is the definition of a gentle giant. Gary came to Suncoast Basset Rescue about a year and a half ago after his family grew with young children, and his mom became concerned about how he would interact with them.

Now, unfortunately Gary was surrendered a 2nd time, after the passing of his dad. Though Gary has faced a lot in his short 4 years, he's resilient and affectionate. SBR is dedicated to ensuring that Gary will have the loving family he truly deserves. 

Meet Steven, a 2 year old basset hound who truly got a second chance at life. When he was brought to a vet clinic, the owners asked that he be euthanized but the vet refused to do this. Steven has shown some resource guarding behaviors and has nipped some children. This incredibly compassionate vet kept Steven, neutered, vaccinated him and found a foster home for him. . 

Recently, his foster reached out to see if Suncoast Basset Rescue could help find Steven his forever home and we said we could. He was just transported to his new foster home and is settling in. More details soon about Steven. 

Meet Hank, a handsome 7-year-old male Basset Hound with a big heart. Hank has had a bit of a rocky start, having lived in several homes over the years. After his previous owner passed away, he was taken in by family, but they’re now downsizing and can no longer keep him. That’s where SBR comes in!

Hank is friendly with both dogs and cats and enjoys going for walks. Though he might be a bit independent at first, once he settles in, he’s all about spending time with his humans, snuggling up, and enjoying some love. He’s going to be heading to the vet soon so that he can get updated on all his vaccines and get scheduled to be neutered.

Meet Stanley! This sweet 3.5 year-old Basset Hound was surrendered to Suncoast Basset Rescue due to his family’s move and divorce. Originally adopted as a puppy from a backyard breeder, Stanley has grown up surrounded by lots of furry friends—a Boxer, Cocker Spaniel, French Bulldog, and even a couple of cats! He’s also great with kids too.

This handsome boy is incredibly well-adjusted, with an even temperament. He does enjoy daily walks so he can check out all the good smells in the neighborhood. Whether he’s playing with his doggy friends or simply lounging on the couch, Stanley is happy as long as he’s with his people.

Meet Dolly, a lovable 6-year-old basset hound in need of a new chapter. Dolly’s mom recently passed away and entrusted Suncoast Basset Rescue to find her a new home. She’s currently settling into her foster home, where she’ll soon be getting a wellness checkup at the vet. Dolly is a social girl who enjoys the company of other dogs, though she’s still getting used to cats.

Her favorite activity is lounging on the sofa, and she has a big love for snacks—her foster mom says she could stand to shed a few pounds. Dolly will soon be ready for her forever family and all the love they can give! 

This handsome 4-year-old male is Milo. He weighs in at 55 lbs. and knows all the typical basset tricks, like flat basset, counter surfing and trash can magician. He’s a real love bug, very sweet and gets along with other dogs. He came to SBR because his family had some major life changes. They could no longer devote the time or energy to give Milo what he needs. He is settling into his new foster home.

Meet Bo, a handsome 2-year-old Basset Hound who was recently surrendered to SBR from a breeder. Bo is still adjusting to his new surroundings and can be a bit shy and overwhelmed, but he's making progress every day. He's already mastered using the doggie door, which is a great sign that he's starting to feel more comfortable. Bo will need some time, patience, and consistency to build his confidence and learn to trust people, but his loving nature shines through.

He's good with other dogs and eager for companionship. Bo will be visiting the vet soon for a wellness check, vaccinations, and to be scheduled for neutering. With the right care and attention, Bo will blossom into an amazing companion.

Meet Lady, a gentle and timid soul who is just beginning to discover the joys of being a dog. As a former breeding female, Lady spent her life outdoors with little human interaction and never had the chance to experience the carefree life of a puppy.

Now, thanks to SBR, her life has taken a beautiful turn. Lady is slowly adjusting to life in a loving home, where she’s learning about soft beds, toys, affection, and the warmth of human companionship. While she’s still shy, she’s making progress every day and showing just how sweet and special she truly is. She has recently made a trip to the vet for her first wellness exam ever and is scheduled to be spayed. Lady hopefully will soon be ready for a future filled with love, patience and lots of positive attention.

Meet Lilly! This sweet 6.5-year-old Basset Hound has spent most of her life living outside as a breeding dog, but her puppy-raising days are now behind her. Lilly is just beginning to learn what it means to be part of a loving home. While she’s still adjusting to indoor living and getting used to people, she’s discovering the joys of cozy dog beds and the comfort of being cared for.

Lilly is a bit shy around loud noises and quick movements, but with patience and kindness, she’s slowly coming out of her shell. She’s scheduled for her first-ever wellness exam at the vet and will soon be spayed. We’re hopeful for good news as Lilly embarks on this new chapter of her life filled with love and care.

Meet Shelby. This 7-year-old sweetheart has been living her life outside, tied up with very little medical care. She was loaded with fleas and is adjusting to living inside. And, she is  adjusting to having someone care for her and make her feel safe and secure. Shelby’s  heading to the vet sooner than later as she has some hind end weakness and to ensure nothing else serious is going on with her.
