Owner Surrender

At Suncoast Basset Rescue, we understand that there are times when rehoming a basset is the best option for both the dog and the family. While this can be a difficult and emotional decision, we are committed to making the process as smooth and stress-free as possible.

To start the process, please complete Surrender Form below. We ask for some basic information about your dog, as well as a recent picture. Please be sure to complete all the required fields before submitting the form; even if you don’t have the requested information, don’t leave a required field blank – just fill in “unknown”. We will also consider basset mixes that resemble a basset in appearance. If there is a specific timeline for surrender, please indicate it on the form.

Once we receive your completed form and photo, a Suncoast Basset Rescue representative will contact you within 24 hours to arrange a follow-up call. During this conversation, we will seek to obtain a fuller understanding of your dog, including background regarding behavior, medical and socialization. The information you provide is extremely important as we use it as the basis for determining the best placement for your dog. Your dog may be placed with one of our approved adopters, who will foster with the intent to adopt once the dog is cleared for adoption. Alternatively, we may place your dog with one of our approved volunteer foster homes.

While in foster care, either through foster-to-adopt or a volunteer foster, Suncoast Basset Rescue will ensure all of the dog’s medical needs are addressed, including vaccinations, heartworm prevention, spaying/neutering, and any other necessary treatments. We will also work closely with the foster family to address any behavioral concerns. The time in foster care may range from three weeks to several months, depending on the specific needs of the dog.

We truly appreciate you taking the time to read about our surrender process. We hope you'll allow Suncoast Basset Rescue the opportunity to care for your basset and find them a loving, forever home.
